Get away with me!

I was overwhelmed. All the important events in 2006 just had to cumulate at just one point, the month of October.

I guess I get stressed out quite easily and yet stress keeps me on my toes. It is quite paradoxical.

It is so amazing that while I was wilting away under the heat of all the events going on both at work and in Church, God spoke to me so directly through my Quiet Time passages. It has taken me through Genesis 1 to reflect on how God rested from work on the seventh day to just appreciate that all that was done was good; through Mark1:21-39 showing how calm Jesus was when confronted with so many tasks ahead and people to meet; Matthew 11:25-30 on how Jesus tells us "Come to me"; Ecclesiastes 3:1-11 on surrendering all to God's Timing even when everything around us seems to spiral out of control; John 15:1-17 to continue to deepen our relationship with Jesus, to be drawing strength and energy from the vine.

Matthew 11:28,29 The Message

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace."

I couldn't put in to words how much comfort this verse spoke into my anxious being, restless thoughts and wandering mind.

When I walked into my office cubicle one tired morning, I saw that my African Violet which had not been blooming for a while, had burst into a rush of purple and white colours. I knew immediately that God had sent encouragement to me!

How wonderful is your love for us, O Lord! You are there with us, taking steps before us to go ahead of us; you know our anxious thoughts even before we perceive them, you calm our worries before they brew over. Everywhere we turn to, you are there. As David puts it in Psalm 139:7-10. "Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on wings of the dawn, if i settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me."

Slowly over the week, He has showed me His sovereignty by eliminating all my little trivial fears and concerns one by one. It is as if Big Boss says: "You can count on me, your Big Boss to settle these trivial problems for you!" Indeed, He is with me. I shall have no fear.
