What's in a name? -Baby Foo's name

From Pastor Flower:

You know, in John Wesley's theology there are two types of grace: Prevenient Grace and Saving Grace

The first Xi (dawn) 曦恩 reflects more of prevenient grace - i.e. The sun was given freely to all humanity by our creator God
Prevenient grace is divine grace which precedes human decision. It exists prior to and without reference to anything humans may have done. The United Methodist Book of Discipline (2004) defines prevenient grace as, "...the divine love that surrounds all humanity and precedes any and all of our conscious impulses. This grace prompts our first wish to please God, our first glimmer of understanding concerning God's will, and our 'first slight transient conviction' of having sinned against God. God's grace also awakens in us an earnest longing for deliverance from sin and death and moves us toward repentance and faith."[2]

John Wesley believes that God's prevenient grace will ultimately lead sinners to know Christ, repent and receive God's SAVING GRACE - that which comes through faith in Jesus Christ.

So the second Xi (Cherish) En 惜恩, reflects more of saving grace. It speaks of the human heart's own choice to give thanks for the grace received - where one is personally grateful for the salvific grace of God :)

And so our daughter will be called 惜恩. =)
